We All Have Our Secrets by Jane Corry (Penguin)

Emily made a serious mistake and now her career in London might be over. She seeks solace in her home Willowmead House in Cornwall. But when she arrives, stranger opens the doors, young and chic French woman is a new carer of her elderly father. Emily's suspicions are every day bigger.

After many conflicts between Emily and Francoise, father Harold dies and the doctor thinks that he was murdered. Both women are partly bad and partly good. But only one of them killed him. Which means one of them is lying.

The story flows and the characters are relatable and believable. The narrative shifts between both women and reader deduces that everything is based on a perception of events. And Harold Gently is oh so charming, yet he has a quick and fierce temper. A mixture of contradictions. Absolutely he is not what he seems to be. Everybody has secrets that weigh on them all their lives.

Beautiful and gripping read about forgiveness, empathy, understanding and above all trust and a need  somewhere to belong.
