Lock Every Door by Riley Sager (Dutton)

Lock Every Door by Riley Sager is a gripping psychological thriller that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. The story follows Jules Larsen, who takes a job as an apartment sitter in the luxurious Bartholomew building in Manhattan. As she unravels the building's dark history, Jules finds herself caught up in a web of secrets and lies threatening her safety and sanity.

Jules Larsen has just landed a new job as an apartment sitter at Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most prestigious and enigmatic buildings. However, the job comes with a strict set of rules: no visitors, no nights spent away from the apartment, and no disturbing the other residents, all of whom are wealthy and famous. Despite these limitations, Jules is captivated by the grandeur of her surroundings and eagerly accepts the terms, hoping to leave her troubled past behind.

As Jules becomes acquainted with the residents and staff of Bartholomew, she finds herself drawn to Ingrid, a fellow apartment sitter who resembles Jules' late sister. However, Ingrid confides in Jules that Bartholomew is not what it seems and that a dark history lurks beneath its gleaming exterior. Jules dismisses Ingrid's concerns as mere ghost stories until Ingrid disappears without a trace.

Determined to uncover the truth about Ingrid's disappearance, Jules delves deeper into Bartholomew's shadowy past and the secrets hidden within its walls. Her investigation reveals that Ingrid is not the first apartment sitter to vanish from Bartholomew, and Jules realizes that she must race against time to unmask a killer, expose the building's hidden history, and escape before her temporary status becomes permanent.

In this gripping tale of mystery and suspense, Jules must navigate the treacherous waters of Bartholomew's past and present while trying to stay alive. Will she be able to uncover the truth before it's too late? Only time will tell.

The characters in Lock Every Door are well-developed and realistic, from Jules to her mysterious employer. Each character has their own motivations and backstories that help to build tension.

I was thoroughly engrossed in this book, captivated by its moments of dread and suspense. The author skillfully piqued my curiosity from the very beginning and held it throughout the majority of the book, making it a true page-turner. I found myself formulating several theories and guesses about the plot, and even though I guessed the ending, I still found the book to be a fast-paced read that fully absorbed my attention.
