Home Before Dark by Riley Sager (Dutton Books)
Maggie Holt, who renovates homes, chooses to go check out the house she and her family briefly lived in when Maggie was 5 years old after learning from her father's estate that she has inherited it.
It's not just any home; it's a haunted one, and Maggie's father has chronicled the incidents that occurred there and drove Maggie's family away in a book. A book that has caused Maggie more trouble than she desired and that she is certain is a lie. She desires to learn more about Baneberry Hall's past for this reason.
The book is a fantastic fusion of ghost tales and crime fiction. It is jam-packed with thrilling incidents, turns, and events. She kept me in anticipation despite all the hints until the end.
A great read with the right atmosphere and interesting protagonists.
